Zach Wondra, son of Brother Dave Wondra, was awarded the Milo Grisamore Scholarship, awarded each year from the council to a graduating 8th grader going to a Catholic high school.
We will hold a 1st degree before the August 11 meeting.
Vic Straub reported on an extremely successful activity held June 2. Our council hosted the camp staff for breakfast on the first day of the annual Holy Family Camp at Camp Hiawatha. This is a camp for mentally and physically disadvantaged children. We plan to make this an annual activity.
The Council will host a Bike Rodeo on July 12 for all children in the area at the St Mary Gym parking lot. Contact Don Birmingham to help or for questions.
July 20 is the date for the annual Knights vs. Teens softball game and cookout.
August 2 the Council will cook and serve dinner for the attendees of the Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) diocesan convention. Contact GK Bob to help.
July 20 Derby will host the annual District Programs meeting; all members are encouraged to attend.
The two Council softball teams are competing in the Derby Rec league and having a good time. Approximately 30 members are playing.
Steak Fry will be held June 28, contact GK Bob or Ray Kennedy for reservations

Business meetings are the second Monday of the month at 7:30 pm and are held at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

Council 4458, St. Mary's Derby was chartered July 21, 1957 with 44 members. Also in 1957 the council began sponsorship of the Boy Scout troop and Cub Scout pack. The first annual Easter egg hunt for parish children was held in 1958 and the council also received its first Star Council Award for the 1958 -1959 Fraternal Year. Eighty acres of land was purchased and a clubhouse was constructed in 1968. This property allowed members and their families to enjoy hayrack rides, fishing, wiener roasts, dances, etc. A 40 x 60 foot addition to the building was built in 1972. In 1977, the council hosted the State Convention as well as the state bowling tournament. Columbian Acres sits on 80 acres of land, one half mile east of Rock Road on 71st St. Thirty acres have been donated to the Parish for the new church and school.
