Though we had hoped to accept credit card sales, we are unable to do so at this time. Credit card payment should be accepted soon. Until that time we will take check or cash. We will notify the parish when payment with a credit card is available. Thank you for your understanding.
What is Scrip? Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. When you purchase scrip, you're purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with every purchase, you earn revenue for your Parish.

How Scrip generates revenue for our Parish
Because St. Mary Scrip Program purchases large amounts of scrip from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers, the participating merchants offer a substantial discount. Our program buys the scrip from area stores and national scrip brokers at a discount, and resells the certificates to families like yours for full face value. The discount – from 2%-16% – is our organization's revenue. A portion of the revenue will be used to pay altar society expenses.
The remainder will be applied to Phase II.

Scrip is “shopping cart fundraising” Scrip is a popular fundraiser because families don't have to sell anything. Participating families produce revenue by making regular household purchases they would make anyway. Groceries, pharmacy, clothing, toys, gifts, and even gasoline can be purchased with scrip.

Refer to the latest version of the scrip order form for an updated participating retailer list. You can come to any weekend mass (not at Life Teen) to order and pick up previous orders or sign up for the backpack program through your child at St. Mary school. On-line ordering will also be available through our website.
Mass times where ordering and pick up will be available are as follows:
- After Saturday 5 p.m. mass and on Sunday after 9 a.m. mass until 11 a.m. mass begins.
For more information, call Jessica Rose 788-2994 or Lisa Pappas 789-9132.
The process is simple:
- We buy gift certificates from local and national retailers at a discount (the”%” listed on the order form).
- We resell the certificates to you for full face value.
- We keep the difference as profit.
- You use the certificates as you would use cash.
Here is an example:
Dillard's offers a 9% discount. If you purchase a $100 Dillard's gift card from Scrip, we make $9 profit. You use the card on your next trip to Dillard's and buy $100 worth of merchandise.

Remember these points about scrip:
It doesn't cost you anything – using scrip only means that you are using a different way to pay for the things you would be buying anyway, such as groceries or gas. When you buy scrip, you are buying gift certificates, just like the ones you would buy in the store.
You get dollar-for-dollar value
It doesn't matter what you buy – just how you pay for it! You don't need a minimum dollar amount to get started, and there is never a minimum amount to purchase.
You are not asked to sell anything – scrip is the alternative to other fundraisers such as wrapping paper or candy sales.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I participate? Your participation will help us work towards Phase II, by making purchases you would make anyway. It costs you nothing and is very easy to use.
Do I have to purchase a minimum amount to get started? There is never a minimum purchase amount. You might find that buying scrip in small denominations is easier until you get in the habit of using it all the time.
Do I have to use the total amount of the certificate when I use it, or do I get cash back? Scrip cards can be used over and over until the face value has been used up, and the remaining balance stays on the card. Paper certificates usually state whether or not change will be given back. Some retailers may just write the new balance on the certificate and give it back to you.
Do any of the certificates or cards expire? The majority of certificates do not expire for at least a year or two. Some cards state that a small amount will be deducted from the value of the card if it is not used within a 12 or 24 month period.
What if I lose a scrip certificate or card? Scrip certificates and cards are equivalent to cash. They cannot be traced or refunded if they are lost, stolen, or misplaced. Once they are in your possession, you should treat them as if they were cash.
When can I buy scrip? What is the Backpack Program? During most of the school year, you will have four opportunities to buy scrip each week.
Mondays – You send in your scrip order and payment with your child in their backpack, and their scrip is returned home with the child on Friday. Use your green envelope for backpack orders.
After Saturday 5 p.m. mass
Sunday after 9 a.m. mass until 11 a.m. mass begins.
On-line ordering is available year round.
How can I pay for scrip? We accept cash, check or credit card for payment.
Are scrip purchases tax-deductible? No – Because you receive dollar-for-dollar value, scrip purchases and any funds raised through this program are not tax-deductible.
