Religion

Walking By Faith is the name of our religion book.  The books will not usually be sent home because we share them with PSR.   Your child has already memorized these prayers:  Sign of the Cross, The Our Father, Hail Mary, Act of Contrition, Glory to the Father, Prayer Before and After Meals, and Prayer to the Guardian Angel.  We'll be adding the Morning Offering to this list.   We will attend mass on Tuesdays and Fridays.  A prayer service will usually be on Wednesdays.

Reading

We have started a new reading series this year. I continually send home reading pages so that you understand or have an idea of the sounds, pictures, and spellings that go with each letter. I would recommend that yo upractice these sounds, pictures, spellings, clue words, and reading words with your child. Decodable books will also be sent home. I would suggest that you keep these together so your child may practice them. All students will be participating in the Accelerated Reader Program.

Spelling

Our spelling consists of vocabulary words from our reading and basic spelling words.  On Monday, we will take a pretest.  Wednesday is a practice test.  The final test is on Fridays.  I'll be sending home the lists of words.   Your child should practice spelling words until they are mastered.

Home/Homework

Your child will bring his or her home/homework folder home every night.   Graded papers and notes will come home in this folder.  I would suggest that you go through your child's folder so you can talk about their work.  My classroom newsletter will usually be sent home on Tuesday.

If your child does not complete his or her work during class time, it must be taken home and completed.  The assignment is due the next day.  If a paper is marked "do and return" your child needs to redo this paper for a new grade.  There may have been a misunderstanding about directions, subject, or even incomplete work.

Classroom Rules

It makes it easier if children know what is expected of them.   We have a set of rules to ensure that we can have an orderly classroom.  The following are the classroom rules:

J	Joy in my heart to share with others.
E	Eyes and ears open to learn and listen.
S	Say kind and loving words.
U	Use hands for helping not hurting.
S	Stop, think and act with care.
