Our Bullying Program
This is just a reminder as to our bullying procedures. We
have also added a new program for this year, which will start
up soon, “Second Step.”
“Second Step”
Starting soon, we will be doing activities to prevent bullying.
We have had in place a program alled “Second Step.” The
program is set up that a situation will be read, and students will
give heir input as to how the problem should be handled. I
will also be putting in the weekly newsletter the topic that was
covered, so you at home will be informed.
As always, if there is any situation that cannot be handled with
talking it over with your child first, then contact me so I am able to
intervene. “Living Our Faith” Basket
In our classroom there is a basket called “Living Our Faith”
basket. The basket is used for 3 purposes: 1) respecting
others, 2) good acts, and 3) prayer intentions.
First, respecting others. If throughout the day there are any
concerns with other students or problems your child is
having, they are encouraged to put it on a note card and
drop it in the “Living Our Faith” basket. I will then read
these and address the issues with the student(s) involved.
They will need to sign their name at the bottom so I know
who I need to talk with; otherwise I can’t fix the problem.
Also in the “Living Our Faith” basket they are encouraged
to write compliments about other classmates. For example,
if someone out at recess was feeling left out and one of the classmates came over and played with them, I would
encourage the person feeling left out to write it down on the
note card and place it in the basket. Those kinds of
behaviors are encouraged!
Third, the basket is also used for
prayer requests. If there is something they would like to
pray for write it on the note card and place it in the basket.
Then, we will include those prayer petitions the next
morning. I will be checking the basket daily! This is how we
can show the students who are living out their faith-- daily
prayer and striving to live like Jesus Christ wants us to live.
McDonald’s Reading Program
Please read as many books as you can for the McDonald’s Reading Program. I know I am only requiring 4 books for a free Happy Meal, but if we want a class party we will have to read many more books that exceed everyone’s 4 books. It is up to them to make a McDonald’s Party happen!!! Keep filling out your reading logs, even after you have reached your 4 books.
Helpful Links & Study Tips
For Spelling…
Go to www.spellingcity.com
At this website, you can play fun interactive games, take practice tests, print off worksheets to do, and so much more!
All you need to do is go to the website above and type the following information.
username: mrsramsey
password: stmary
The spelling words will be listed by the week, so you can practice for future tests as well.
For Religion…
Go to www.faithfirst.com
Here you can take practice tests for each chapter. Take them as many times as you like. You can even email me your results so I can see how you did. I love to get them. When it asks for your teacher’s email type in bramsey@stmarysderby.com.
For Science tests…
Study the notes given in class. The kids will have a designated Science notebook. My suggestion is to study this notebook a couple of times a week. That way when test time comes around for the chapter, you aren't waiting to study until the night before. The more often you can go over the information, the easier it will be to learn and retain the information.
For Social Studies tests…
Study the notes given in class. The kids also have a Social Studies notebook. My suggestion is the same for Social Studies tests as well, don't wait until the night before to study.
