Class Newsletter
Helpful study web resources:
For Religion…
Go to www.faithfirst.com
Here you can take practice tests for each chapter. Take them as many times as you like. You can even email me your results so I can see how you did. I love to get them. When it asks for your teacher’s email type in bramsey@stmarysderby.com.
For Science tests…
Study the notes given in class. The kids will have a designated Science notebook. My suggestion is to study this notebook a couple of times a week. That way when test time comes around for the chapter, you aren't waiting to study until the night before. The more often you can go over the information, the easier it will be to learn and retain the information.
For Social Studies tests…
Study the notes given in class. The kids also have a Social Studies notebook. My suggestion is the same for Social Studies tests as well, don't wait until the night before to study.

BIRTHDAYS
We love to celebrate birthdays! We have 17 students in our class. Please do not bring a cake. Cookies or cupcakes are fine. If possible, please include napkins. Thanks!
BOOK ORDERS
I will send home a book order form every month. If you are interested in ordering books, complete the order form and include payment in the form of a check. The check should be payable to Scholastic Book Club. No cash please.
CLASSROOM RULES
1. If you are talking out of turn or while the teacher is talking, you will
get 1 warning. If there is a second offense, you will owe 5 minutes at
recess.
2. Late papers-You will have 15% taken off of your grade.
3. If you have incomplete work or work that you forgot at home, you will
have 15% taken off of your grade.
4. If you forgot your name on your paper, you will write your name 15
times.
5. If you receive a 69% or lower on an assignment, your work will be
redone.
6. Misbehavior-You will get two warnings, and after that you will owe 10
minutes of recess time. If warranted, a demerit will be given.
MASS PARTICIPATION/PRAYER SERVICES
Mass participation is expected. This is includes singing!
4th graders will be given opportunities to be a leader at Mass. These roles include lector, petitions, and song leaders. Mrs. Gassman determines the song leaders. I will choose the lector and students to read the petitions. I do tend to choose those students who are actively participating at Mass.
We are also in charge of some prayer services. Your child will have a chance to lead at Mass or at a prayer service.
FOLDERS
Each Friday I will send home a folder containing samples of your child’s work. I ask that you sit down and discuss the work with your child. Sign the signature sheet that is in the folder. Please write down any comments or concerns. I will do the same. Please remind your child that it is his/her responsibility to see that the folder is brought to school every Monday morning.
NEWSLETTER
A weekly newsletter will be sent home each Friday with your child’s folder. This will keep you informed of upcoming tests and my general curriculum goals for the week ahead.
AGENDA BOOKS
Please make sure you check your child’s agenda every night. The students are writing all of their assignments down, and they should be crossing them off as they are completed. I ask that you SIGN YOUR CHILD’S AGENDA EACH NIGHT. I will check the agendas every morning.
LIVING OUR FAITH
In our classroom we will have a place where the students will be able to write a prayer request, give a compliment to someone, or share a concern with me. This will be an opportunity to ensure they are living their faith on a daily basis.
AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING
Your child will have the opportunity to stay after school for tutoring on Mondays from 3:30-4:00. This will probably begin in late September. I will send information regarding this at a later date.
ASSESSMENTS
This year in 4th grade will have assessment tests. The 4th grade will be tested in Reading, Math, and Science for the Kansas State Assessments. A Steward test for the Diocese will also be given. There is a lot of material to cover this year!
