Mrs. Fanning's Kindergarten Classes
2010-2011

Welcome to Kindergarten!
As we begin this school year, we look forward to working with you and your child. Together we can make it a successful year.

Teacher/Parent Communication
Your child’s folder is a great way to send notes to the teacher. We will do the same to you. Please check it daily. Email is another option. You can also leave a message with the school office and we will return your call.

Mass
The Kindergarten class will go to Mass on Friday's beginning after Thanksgiving. The class will also attend special Mass days during the week. Ex: Ash Wednesday etc.

Child’s Folder
Check your child’s folder daily, as it may contain some important notes from me as well as your child’s hard work. I will also check them daily so you may correspond with me also.

Sending Money or notes
When sending money to school with your child please put it in an envelope and mark on the outside what it is for.

Show and Tell
This will begin when on January 5, 2010. There will be specific guidelines as to what your child can bring each week. This will be explained at a later time.

Weekly Chef
This will begin after Thanksgiving, and the schedule will be sent home before Thanksgiving. Your child will lead the class through a recipe of their choice. There is a notebook of recipes that will be sent home a week before they are chef.

Scientist-of-the-Week
This will begin after Thanksgiving, and the schedule will be sent home before Thanksgiving. Your child will lead the class through an easy science experiment. There is notebook that has ideas for this which will be sent home a week before their turn.

Angel of the Week
Your child will get a chance to bring in photos to share with the class. We will display them for a week and then return them. A schedule will be sent to you before Thanksgiving.

Toys at School
Thank you for leaving toys at home. This will save any hardship and the possibility of losing or breaking them. It also provides more opportunity to play on the equipment and get their exercise at recess.

Making Good and Bad choices in the classroom
Our rule in the classroom is simple, respect! They receive beads on the pipe cleaners, at their desks, for making good choices. When bad choices occur they will not get a bead, and other consequences may occur depending upon the specific choice. If the bad choice is extreme, an oops note will come home explaining the bad choice. If this happens please talk it over with your child and return the oops note to school signed.

How are they doing?
When you see me as your child is being dismissed please do not ask me how he/she is doing. I will always say great because I do not think it is anyone else’s business how your child is doing. If you want to check on them please ask for a brief conference so we can talk privately or email your concerns.

Illness
It is a school policy that a child must be fever free 24 hours without Tylenol to attend school. Please keep your child at home when they are sick. When your child is absent please complete the work that has been sent home and return it to school.

Weekly Newsletter
You will receive a weekly newsletter on Tuesdays. This will keep you up to date on things going on in the classroom. Soon your child will be given weekly assessment test and those will go home with the newsletter. Book orders (this is optional) will also go home with the newsletter. Please send those back with check payable to "Scholastic Book Club".

Library
Library will be once a week with Mrs. Schif. Your child will be allowed to check out one book a week to take home. It should be returned on or before the next library day. Your child may not select a new book until the previous one is returned. If a book becomes lost or damaged it must be replaced. Mrs. Schif will be reading to the children during this time also.

Music
Music will be three times a week. This will be on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

P.E.
The children will go to p.e. two times a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Girls need to wear shorts (any type) under their jumpers.

Girls Shorts
Girls need to wear shorts under their jumpers everyday. They may be any type of shorts.

Birthdays
This is a special day for your child. Please feel free to send treats with your child. If your child’s birthday is during the summer, just let us know a good day during the school year, and we will make arrangements.

Free items
Please help the classroom receive free items by checking the yes or no box and signing the highlights and any other magazine order.

Field Trips
The two scheduled field trips will be on October 23 (Pumpkin patch) and May 25 (zoo). We will be taking a bus and all parents that would like to come with us are always welcome.
